Canalicchio di Sopra was founded in 1962 by Primo Pacenti, one of the co-founders of the Brunello di Montalcino Consortium (1967). It was in 1966 that Primo Pacenti decided to leave the cooperative to produce and bottle his own wine.

This area, located north of the town of Montalcino, extends over 60 ha of which 15 ha of vines. Three generations of the family work there to highlight the terroir and produce high-quality wines. In the tradition of their fathers, grandchildren Simonetta, Marco and Francesco bring new ideas and introduce new technologies adapted to their development objectives, while respecting traditional methods.

The vineyards are located in two of the best areas of Montalcino for growing grapes: Canalicchio di Sopra and Gode di Montosoli. It produces Brunello di Montalcino DOCG and Riserva, Rosso di Montalcino DOC. The climate of the North and the geology of the soils give a Sangiovese with peculiarities very distinct from that of the South. The average age of the vines is 20 years except for a vineyard where the vines are more than 40 years old.

The wines of this domain have won numerous awards and recognition in the international competitions and publications and have made the great reputation of Canalicchio di Sopra.
