The farm was founded in 1964 by Ofelio Fattoi. At the beginning, he only knew cattle breeding and olive trees. In 1966 he acquired half a hectare of vineyard, then another hectare in 1974 and another in 1977. Ofelio decided to start producing wine. He marketed his first bottles of Rosso di Montalcino, but it was not until 1979 that his project became a reality with the marketing of 1000 bottles of the first vintage of Brunello di Montalcino.
A life and a passion dedicated to agriculture began. A life rooted in a strong and generous territory, the territory of Montalcino. Ofelio’s sons, Leonardo and Lamberto, joined him in sharing the same passion. A life that the Fattoi family has always dedicated with abnegation, enthusiasm, and absolute professionalism, to the production of wine and olive oil that have made Montalcino famous throughout the world. The products of this territory reach remarkable organoleptic qualities that are of great importance for the final product.
The Azienda Fattoi is in the southern part of the municipality of Montalcino, in one of its most picturesque valleys and at the junction of the rivers Ombrone and Orcia. The family manages every aspect of production with great enthusiasm, from the soil to the cellar.
The 70-hectare property is divided into 12 hectares of vineyards planted exclusively with Sangiovese to produce Brunello, Brunello Riserva and Rosso di Montalcino, and 5 hectares of olive groves, while the rest of the property is composed of woods and grain production. At Azienda Fattoi, olives of the Leccino, Frantoio and Moraiolo varieties have always been harvested by hand from century-old trees.
Due to the position of the vineyard and the fact that their wines are influenced by the prevailing sea breezes, it is possible to reach the optimal ripening of the grapes, which allows Fattoi to produce a Brunello di Montalcino. D.O.C.G. of rare fullness and an equally exceptional Rosso di Montalcino D.O.C.
The company also produces a grappa of great quality. In this region, we find one of the most amazing expressions of the "cordone speronato" planting techniques of the Sangiovese vines.
