In 2009, Julien Chantreau took over the family estate located in Javernand and dedicated to Chiroubles for 5 generations. Julien works mainly by hand on the steep slopes of the vineyards. The estate consists of 5 hectares of AOP Chiroubles and 4 hectares of AOP Morgon, Chardonnay will be planted in April 2023 to complete the range.

Chiroubles, made with the Gamay grape like all the wines of the region, is one of the smallest of the 10 Beaujolais crus with about 235 hectares of vines, and one of the least known. The production area of the wine extends on the southeast-facing hillsides just west of Beaujolais. This high-altitude terroir, rising to 450 meters above sea level, is one of the highest in the Beaujolais. The diurnal temperature change is more pronounced here than in most of the Beaujolais region. The hot sun of the Saône Valley, followed by much cooler evenings that contribute to the cooling of the grapes, allows for a longer growing season in Chiroubles.

Another particularity of this terroir is that it is unique in the world in that all of its vines are planted on 100% granitic soil, very poor soil and hillsides planted on southern slopes. The vine suffers to bring its best ...

The producers of this small appellation often outperform by producing fruity and very fragrant wines, expressing the best of Beaujolais. The small domain of Julien Chantreau, this gifted of the appellation, produces wines with an irresistible and immediate charm: fresh, fruity, and slightly peppery. These are wines that are both supple and complex, yet simple to drink. The wine of friends, the fruit of the Gamay to enjoy.

The Morgon vines, planted on 4 hectares of the Corcelette terroir with a southwestern exposure, produce richer wines. "The wines of Morgon are made by 250 winemakers and draw their strength from the terroir of Villié-Morgon, to which the appellation owes its name. This famous Beaujolais cru contains an exceptional power that reveals its secrets after a few years. With their deep garnet colour, the Morgon wines arouse curiosity and attract fine gourmets.

All of Julien Chantreau’s wines are certified Terra Vitis, an environmental certification that guarantees the quality of the wine through traceability from the vine to the bottle. Concerned about responsible and environmentally friendly work, he is also strongly committed to HVE (High Environmental Value). Domaine Chantreau is ranked in the top 66 of Beaujolais domains.
