Celler Joan Simó, a small family owned cellar in the heart of the Priorat region. The cellar is located in Porrera, a village of just 500 residents with a long tradition of winemaking, in DOQ Priorat. In 1999, the Simo family picked up this tradition by producing 1,500 bottles of its first wine, Comella dels Sants, from long-established family vines. Now, in 2009, output has grown to 7,000 bottles, and the wine is being produced under its brand new name of LES ERES , to honour our most important vineyard in Porrera.
Aside from the 80 year old vines which already flourish in Porrera, the family has planted a further 15,000 vines, reaching 700 metres high in their hilltop terraces, at our property ‘La Garranxa’. The vines are a blend of 50% Grenache, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon and 25% Syrah.
«We wanted to make a wine that incorporated these regional varieties, so Grenache and Carignan grapes were selected for the base of Les Eres. The wine, which takes 16 months to mature in new French oak, is best enjoyed after a further 6 months in the bottle. In May 2004, our efforts were recognised by the magazine ‘Wine Spectator’, which awarded Les Eres with 94 points, deeming it a ‘superior’ wine. And Wine Advocate (Robert Parker), 94 points above 100, in the issue of February 2007.»
