Winemaking has been a family tradition for the Künstlers since 1648 when they were already growing Riesling in Moravia (Czechoslovakia). After the Second World War, Franz Künstler left Moravia to work for the Domdechant Werner and Baron von Jungenfeld Estates in Hochheim were he became noticed for his exceptional winemaking skills. In 1965, he opened his own estate in Hochheim located in the Rheingau region.

Since 1988, Günter (Franz’s son), a graduate in winegrowing and administration, has been at the head of the estate and ensures that the quality established by his father persists. From traditional to dry (Trocken) wines, Künstler’s wines are often referred to as masterpieces because of their elegance and depth.
